19 – New York for Piccolas and Piccolos : NYC Transit Museum

By Piccola New Yorker

Kids of all ages and from the four corners of the world love it. Their parents love it as well. Whether you adore the New York City’s transit system or despise it, you almost have to agree that the New York Transit Museum is one of the coolest places around to get a comprehensive look at the system’s vast history.

Located in Downtown Brooklyn’s decommissioned Court Street subway station, the museum is home to a number of historical collections.

The New York City Transit Museum tells the amazing story of New York’s subways, beginning with how tunnels were dug underground from 1904 to 1927 for the opening of the system.

There’s also a free Grand Central Terminal branch and a store. It’s small but worth a stop for changing exhibits and model train displays.
